We use quizzes to measure students' performance. The below steps outline how to create a quiz to administer to students. This tutorial will focus on creating a multiple-choice quiz.

Step 1 - general configuration

Add a new quiz in your classroom under the topic 'Quiz'. You should be able to add it once you have turn on editing. In this step you will need to configure the general settings of the quiz. Below we highlight the meaning of the available configurations.

Name

This is the name of the quiz that is shown to students. Generally, you would want to choose a name that reflects the topics being tested. For example, you could name your quiz 'Quiz on Vectors' or 'Quiz on Antonyms'.

Description

Write a small description of your quiz. You can also outline the rules and time limit on the quiz. Be sure to select the 'display description on course page' option.

Timing

The timing option allows you to specify the period of when students are able to take the quiz and other time restraints. You can set the quiz to become available on a particular date - this will prevent students from taking the quiz until the specified day at time. Teachers are also able to choose when the quiz closes.

If you wish for your quiz to close at the end of the day, please choose 11:50PM. You are also able to specify the duration of the quiz.

Grade

This section allows you to configure the grading metrics on the quiz.

Grade to pass - this should be a single digit number, ideally the number of correct answers needed to pass the quiz. For example, in a quiz of 10 questions where 8 correct answers are needed to pass, the number '8' should be entered into this section.

Attempts allowed - you are able to choose the number of attempts a student is allowed. This can be unlimited, 1 or up to 10.

Layout

We recommend using the default settings.

Question Behaviour

Shuffle within questions - This should be ideally set to 'Yes'. This allows the system to shuffle/ randomize the each question and options.

All other fields can continue with the default settings. Click the orange 'Save and Display' button.
